David Was a Shepherd Boy
A Bible Lesson for Children
1 Samuel 16:1-13
Before David was king of Israel, he was simply a shepherd boy working for his father. One day, the prophet Samuel came to David's father's house to anoint a new king. Samuel looked at all of David's older brothers, but God told him that none of them were the right one. Then Samuel saw David, and God told him that David was the one he had chosen to be king.
David was surprised and scared, but he agreed to be king. He left his job as a shepherd and went to live in the palace. David was a good king, and he led Israel to many victories. He was also a great musician, and he wrote many of the psalms in the Bible.
